Mount Kenya, Africa's second-highest mountain and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers one of the continent's most rewarding trekking experiences. Rising to 5,199m (17,057ft), this ancient extinct volcano presents a dramatic landscape of glacial valleys, pristine lakes, and rugged peaks.
Our 6-day Sirimon-Chogoria route trek is considered the most scenic approach, taking you through four distinct ecological zones - from montane forest through bamboo and heathland to the spectacular alpine zone. Summit Point Lenana (4,985m) at sunrise for breathtaking views across the African plains, with Mount Kilimanjaro visible on clear days.

Early morning departure from Nairobi, driving through the fertile highlands to Sirimon Gate (2,650m). After registration and lunch, begin your trek through beautiful montane forest, home to elephants, buffalo, and colobus monkeys. The trail gradually ascends through bamboo zone to Old Moses Camp. Briefing on the days ahead and early dinner.
Today's trek takes you through the moorland zone, characterized by giant heather, groundsel, and lobelia plants. Pass the dramatic Mackinder's Valley with views of the main peaks. The landscape becomes increasingly alpine as you gain altitude. Arrive at Shipton's Camp, nestled beneath the towering peaks, with time for acclimatization walks.
A crucial day for altitude acclimatization. Morning hike to Kami Hut (4,430m) for spectacular views of the Lewis Glacier and main peaks. "Climb high, sleep low" principle helps your body adjust. Return to Shipton's for lunch and rest. Optional afternoon exploration of the surrounding area. Early dinner and sleep to prepare for summit day.
Wake at 2:00 AM for hot drinks and biscuits. Begin the summit push in darkness, guided by headlamps and starlight. The trail ascends steeply via scree slopes to Point Lenana (4,985m). Arrive for sunrise - an unforgettable moment as golden light floods the peaks. Descend via the Chogoria route to Mintos Hut, passing stunning alpine scenery and the Temple formations.
Descend through the spectacular Gorges Valley, one of the most scenic sections of the mountain. Stop at Lake Michaelson, a stunning turquoise lake surrounded by cliffs. Continue through the moorland, with views of the peaks behind you. Camp near Lake Ellis, a peaceful spot with excellent birding. Celebrate your achievement!
Final morning trek through beautiful bamboo forest to Chogoria Gate. Enjoy the contrast of descending through increasingly lush vegetation. Hot lunch and certificate presentation. Drive back to Nairobi, arriving late afternoon. Transfer to your hotel or airport for onward travel.

Dry season with clear skies and excellent summit views. Cold but stable weather. Most popular time.
July - October
Another dry window. Can be colder, occasional clouds. Good for avoiding crowds.
March - May
Long rains. Trails can be muddy and slippery. Poor visibility. Not recommended.
November - December
Short rains. Conditions unpredictable. Possible but requires flexibility.
